Fretwork privacy

The short version

Fretwork runs entirely on your device. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no subscription. What you set up in it stays in your browser or in the app on your phone, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to send it.

What the app stores

Your settings (which hand, which tuning, which room you were in, note names on or off), your saved chords, your chord charts and your drill progress. All of it lives in this browser's own local storage under the key fretwork1. Clearing the site's data, or uninstalling the app, deletes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else.

What leaves your device

Nothing, in normal use. The app does not fetch, upload, or report anything while you play, practice or build charts.

Two things exist on the web version at skywolfstudio.com that you have to choose to use:

• Feedback. If you type a message into the Feedback box and press send, that message and a short description of your browser are delivered to the developer's private Discord channel. Nothing is sent unless you press send, and the message is only what you typed.
• The tip jar. The heart button opens buy.stripe.com in a new tab. Stripe handles any payment under its own privacy policy; Fretwork never sees your card or your name.

In the Google Play version of Fretwork neither of these exists. The tip jar and the in-app feedback form are switched off there, and the Feedback link opens your email app instead.

What the app does not do

• No accounts, no sign-in, no passwords (the one exception is Pi sign in in the Pi Network copy, below).
• No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking pixels.
• No analytics of any kind.
• No access to your microphone, camera, contacts, or location. The rhythm room plays sound; it never listens.
• No sale or sharing of data, because there is none to sell or share.

The Pi Network copy

The copy of Fretwork at fretwork.lucidwinds.com runs inside the Pi Browser as a Pi Network app. It is the same app with two additions, and everything above still holds for it, except that it has no tip jar and no feedback form or email link:

• Pi sign in. When it opens, Fretwork asks Pi to sign you in. Pi gives the app your Pi username and an identifier that Pi makes for this app alone. Fretwork shows your username nowhere and keeps it only while the app is open. It never asks for your email or your phone number.
• One purchase. Guitar in standard tuning, with every drill and tool, is free. Every other instrument and tuning is one unlock of 8 Pi, paid through Pi's own payment dialog. To remember that you bought it, our server (hosted on Google Firebase) records the Pi payment id, the Pi transaction id and the app identifier Pi made for you, and nothing else. That record is what lets Fretwork open unlocked on any phone where you sign in with the same Pi account. It is kept for as long as the unlock should work, and it is never shared or sold.
• The test copy. While the app is being tested, a second copy at fretwork-test.lucidwinds.com uses Pi's test network. That copy also asks Pi for your wallet address, so it can send each tester a small thank you in test Pi, and it records your Pi username and that app identifier for that payment. Test Pi has no money value.

For this, the Pi copy also talks to Pi's own servers (sdk.minepi.com, the Pi Browser) and to our server at cloudfunctions.net. Your settings, your chords, your charts and your progress still live on your device only, exactly as described above. The copies on Google Play and on the open web have no sign in and no purchase.

Children

Fretwork is a music practice tool suitable for any age. It collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Any new behaviour that would send data off your device will be described here before it ships.
